Art may imitate life, but sometimes life necessitates art. When a 21st Century artist found herself penniless during an untimely spout of close friend's birthdays, she broke into her jewelry box and began to play. There on the bare wood-floor of her apartment, reinventing romantic jewelry into gracefully contemporized pieces, By Mai was created. Marked by intricate patterns, delicate shapes and colorful stones, the pieces won compliments and inquiries from friends and friends of friends' friends'.
Today, no longer relying on her own jewelry box for resources, Mai exclusively selects precious metals and authentic gemstones with a quiet luminescence and signature grace. Each piece is handcrafted with no other exactly like it in the world. Inspired by organic forms, classic materials and a modern sensibility, By Mai's collections pronounce a distinct sense of warmth and character - designed as individual for the individual.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MAI
Mai has made a life out of aesthetic invention. Leaving no craftsmen's stone unturned, her portfolio brims with accomplishment born out of button, ribbon and scissor - flour, sugar and spoon. Having been enlisted as a print designer, painter and cupcake maker, all by happy accident, her unwavering focus and attention to detail naturally led her to her fervor for design. Her aspiration and inspiration stems from the peak of Kilimanjaro, which she climbed in 2004 to the middle of the Atlantic, which she sailed across in 2007. This inherent spirit of adventure, romanticism and multiculturalism colors her work with a fresh spin on femininity and a gentle reinterpretation of nature, fashion and form.
